About Us

Minnesota Elk Company and the Taylor Elk Ranch began in 1996 with the purchase of 36 bred cows from a couple of ranches in Colorado. Building fence and facilities over the next few years, the herd grew to over 650 head pasturing over 300 acres under fence. As the industry matured and our operations became established, we currently have a herd around 300 head on 2 facilities. The Wilder facility is a bull operation that is designed to safely harvest velvet and handle hard antler bulls for scoring, sorting and shipping. The Taylor Elk Ranch is designed as a cow/calf and breeding facility. We typically calve out about 100 cows each spring and breed back in the fall with a combination of super-bull natural breeding and a top-of-the-industry artificial breeding program. Having shipped thousands of hard antler elk bulls and sold thousands of cows, we are your source for breeding cows and hard antler bulls.
Since the beginning of our breeding program, we have taken an approach that is designed to be stable and consistent throughout any of the typical market changes. Our genetics have been designed to consistently provide typical hard antler frames, excellent beam mass, long tines, good spread and heavy velvet mass. Our target has not been to produce the single biggest bull ever, but rather, our target has been to operate a sustainable operation that can weather the storms of the marketplace and provide consistent antler that is marketable throughout any market conditions. Whether velvet antler prices soar over $40 per pound or breeding stock prices escalate or the hunting preserve industry leads demand, we are positioned to provide the products that our customers desire in volumes that are sustainable for the future! I invite you to drop an email, give a call, or even stop by the ranch. We are always excited to talk about North America’s greatest animal, Elk!

See you soon,
